Derek C. Barnes, D.M.D., P.A.
Dr. Derek C. Barnes earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from The Citadel, Military College of South Carolina. He then entered The Medical University of South Carolina earning a Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree, placing a focus on Cosmetic and Family Dentistry. He served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Dentistry and a member of several professional dental associations and societies: The Charlotte Dental Society, American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Dental Organization For Conscious Sedation, Old North State Dental Society, AJ Williams Study Club and the N.C. Dental Society to name a few. In Striving for excellence in esthetic and restorative dentistry, he is a strong advocate of continuing education; completing many hours of advanced cosmetic and restorative courses to stay abreast with the modern innovations of today's dentistry which he employs in his private practice.
Family and family time is very precious to Dr. Barnes. He is happily married to his lovely wife Natasha Barnes. Dr. Barnes has two beautiful boys Derek II and Jordan. He is an avid fisherman and loves to charter boats to sport fish in the Gulf Stream. Dr. Barnes is also a private Pilot and flies airplanes as a hobby.
Dr. Barnes and his dental team enjoy observing the patient's reaction when they discover their new beautiful smiles using veneers, tooth colored fillings, crowns, bridges and implants. He has also developed a reputation of performing all dental procedures as painless as possible. His office offers you a comfortable, relaxing, family environment that gives unhurried personal care and attention. He is an advocate of keeping his patients comfortable throughout their procedures. Hello, my name is Misty Reese and I have been working with Dr. Derek C. Barnes for over 3 years. I am a dental hygiene graduate of Cypress College in California. I have been married for 8 yrs and we are expecting our first baby boy in November 2008! As an educator, I enthusiastically teach patient's how to prevent dental disease by use of proper home care techniques. I also promote sound nutrition, prevention of periodontal disease and cosmetic dentistry. My goal is to maintain dental health for each patient with total patient involvement and personalization of treatment. I am proud to be a part of this dental team because Dr. Barnes takes the time to make every dental restoration just right and has a genuine desire to give each patient and situation his best effort. As a result, we all give our best and enjoy contributing to our patient's welfare.

Hello, my name is Mary Ann and I’m a Dental Assistant (DAI). I’ve been working chair side with Dr Derek Barnes since graduating from Lake Norman Dental Assistant Program in 2007. I enjoy putting our patients at ease and making sure they are comfortable. I really enjoy working with Dr Barnes because of his excellent chair side manner and gentle, caring treatment of his patients. The most rewarding part about being an assistant is seeing the beautiful smiles we helped create on the faces of our patients. My professional certifications include Dental Assistant (DAI), X-Ray certification. On my days off, I enjoy spending time with my husband, we enjoy mountain bike riding and going to the beach.
FRONT OFFICE MANAGER

Hi, I’m Richard and I manage the Front Office operations here at Dr. Barnes’ office. I’ve worked with Dr. Barnes since the inception of the practice in 2002 and I must say it is GREAT assisting our patients in achieving their dental goals. At the Front Office it is not business as usual. Our staff will go above and beyond to insure your visit exceeds your expectations. I attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (Go 49’ers!!) where I received a B.A. Degree in Sociology with a minor in Business Management. To compliment my Human Resources Management background, I received a Certificate in Human Resource Management also from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Staying current and knowledgeable in the dental field is a must. I attend annual dental conferences, seminars and my certifications in CPR, OSHA and X-Ray are updated as required by state law. I like to volunteer within the community by working on the Mobile Dental Bus assisting Dr. Barnes to provide service to children that may not have access to dental care. Just call me a jack of all trades in the office. You may see me assisting Dr. Barnes, taking x-rays, making appointments or answering the telephones. I will go the extra mile to help our patients maximize and understand their insurance benefits. The relationships that I have developed with financing companies – especially Care Credit, helps to insure that I am able find the best financial plan to assist with your dental treatment.
FRONT OFFICE COORDINATOR

I am Diane, Dr. Barnes' Front Desk Coordinator and a newcomer to Charlotte. I relocated to Charlotte from the West Coast and have many years of experience in the dental field. I have a daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren in California. When not at the office I enjoy gardening, sewing and spending time with my husband and newly adopted Chihuahua, named Penny. I know how important your time is and will work efficiently to maximize your office stay. I will do my best to help you with your insurance coverage questions. I enjoy the great relationship the office has with our patients, I feel privileged to be apart of Dr Barnes' Practice.
