If you are in need of an oral health care makeover, the first step is to eliminate chances of cavities destroying your teeth. Cavities exist as forms of tooth decay that have occurred to the point where dental erosion is so strong a hole has formed in a tooth. When this occurs, it must be treated immediately with a dental filling, or pulp infection and tooth loss could eventually occur.

As with all oral health care routines, brushing and flossing should be at the forefront. Brush effectively twice every day and floss effectively once per day. For additional help keeping your mouth clean, use supplementary tools directly after eating, a period that exists when brushing may not be wise due to an increase in tooth sensitivity at this time. However, mouthwash and sugarless gum are excellent tools to use at this time.

Eating the proper diet can also prevent cavities, as it keeps various hazardous foods off your plate and out of your mouth. A heavy focus should be placed on avoiding acidic foods and drinks, including sugary sweets and treats. Alternative cleaning methods should include regular visits to your dentist for exams and bi-annual professional cleanings.
